Side-by-Side Performance -
A Solano Symphony Tradition
Attention all Solano County youth musicians! You can perform side-by-side with our outstanding professional musicians in our Salute to Youth concert on March 22, 2026! High School students from Yolo and Solano counties are eligible, and must also attend both our dress rehearsals on March 16 (Monday) and March 19 (Thursday) in the evening.
This season, the up-and-coming string players will sit in with the Solano Symphony to play 4 Novelletten for Strings and Percussion, Op. 52, Movements II and III, by S. Coleridge-Taylor, as well as Movements II and III of Frank Bridge's Suite for String Orchestra. Here's a link to the Novelletten music, and one to the Suite so you can check it out and start practicing!
Youth brass, woodwind, and percussion players will perform side-by-side on Giroux's Circus Franticus (LINK to parts here) and Frank Ticheli's Shenandoah (LINK to parts) so you can see and start practicing your parts.
We'll add a piece for the full combined orchestra as the grand finale. (Check back for a link to the parts.) What a fun experience for both the students and the symphony members - and the audience too! Come join us!
If you think you would be able to successfully play the music we've chosen for the Side-By-Side portion of the program, please sign up HERE no later than March 6, 2026.
Information will be given through your music teachers, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please connect with our Community/Youth Outreach Chair Matt Baloun, info@solanosymphony.org

Youth Outreach
The Symphony works to engage youth in our community to expand their knowledge in music and showcase their talent. Through our annual Young Artists Competition, young instrumental and vocal soloists have an opportunity to earn cash awards and the chance to perform with the orchestra, in addition to youth ensembles from local schools. We have also partnered with The Leaven learning centers – an after-school mentoring and tutoring program for at-risk and under-served neighborhoods – to provide musical instrument demonstrations to elementary-age youth.

"The mission of the Solano Symphony Orchestra is to entertain and enrich the lives of our diverse audiences by contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of our communities."
